Nieves Castro-Rodriguez
I was born in La Palma (Spain-Canary Islands)in 1976. My favorite interests are painting, literature, music, my work (the astrophysics), of course to take a walk , to travel (galeria/ncastro/Pagina1/pag1_engl.html)
In the literature, I like the books of epic fantasy, and I expect to find an elf in this life. Though I also enjoy the classical authors (thank you, Martín, for the classic world that you have showed me!). The music is also part of my life. Only what we can call music!. Because nowadays, we are coming back to the caverns in many things related to the Art (nobody feel offended). In the modern music I estimate especially the good songs, with lyrics that says to me something , and the music with Celtic roots.
Then, the classic music. Many things of it please me, but especially the melancholic pieces (romanticism, Beethoven, Schubert, etc ...) and others (Vivaldi, etc ...). In the "link" of music I have selected, in general, my favorite composers. Painting, that is my great passion (well, and other things). Since I had enough age to take a pencil with my hands, that has been my favorite activity. I admire the classic ones, from the renaissance (the great Leonardo, Michael Angel, ...), the romantic ones (Waterhouse, ...), and the Impresionism (Monet, ...). I want to reach that perfection of these great masters, but I am still very far.
The Art in general, the muses who always inspired the geniuses (though as Beethoven said: " The genius consists of two per cent of talent and ninety eight per cent of persevering application "), it has entered in decadence the last years. With the idea of " I see the reality so ", it seems that they joke of us showing a linen with three stripes and two points. What do we feel looking at a modern picture?. Mainly nauseas.Well, at least I feel something (isn't it?). What does it happen nevertheless when we admire a classical work ( XIX century for example)?. You do not need that anybody explains to you what it represents, the soul understands it. In front of a beautiful work of art it is allowed to cry, to cry for the beauty that it transmits you. These soft brushstrokes (or chords) that a genius formed in his madness and they have survived the creator.
The astrophysics has also had a great interest for me when I was child (thanks to my good level in Maths, on the contrary ...). The sensation of looking at the starry sky at a summer night and to feel ourselves so insignificant as a drop in the sea. To want to know simply: " why? ".
Thanks to the astrophysics I could travel a bit,I have known Chile and I have been living more than one year in Switzerland (and almost I go to the India..., in the future, maybe). It is nice to see different forms of life . Though they are tremendously threatened by the powerful "Globalization". It is sorrow, that the culture of the " Coca Cola " and the McDonals is conquering the world and does not exempt anybody. It was a great shock for me when I went to...

It is sorrow, that the culture of the " Coca Cola " and the McDonals is conquering the world and does not exempt anybody. It was a great shock for me when I went to St. Petersburg and I saw an establishment of these of american fast food (mentioned previously) in the main street, . This one is a very common obsession of the powerful countries, to try to inculcate their customs and products to the poorest countries. But, it is necessary to ask ourselves, why are their poor? They have big deposits of natural materials and nevertheless they starve because the strong countries abuse them. It will be horrible day when it is not worth travelling. What for?, to see the same thing that you have in your house?. What has been of the proud Babylonia, or the magic of the desert? Will something stay after imposing the western culture, often forcibly?
What a world! But " we live in the best of the possible worlds " (Candide. Voltaire). The world of the dreams is made of a material that only some people can rub with the top of the fingers. Happy must have been Alonso Quijano (Don Quixote) in his madness. Let's run behind the moonligth!
