Matyas is a photographer whose interests combine family relations, culture and psychology. She began her career as a journalist, then moved into fine art. Her work involves intimate settings in Mexico, Romania and the United States. Most of her imagery is figurative, utilizing immediate family, friends and herself. Her portfolio of life in rural Mexico spans 30 years and was published as a monograph by Daylight Books in the spring of 2019. She received her MFA in Photography from Arizona State University in 2002. She has taught photography at the college level for several years and led many youth workshops. Her images are widely collected and exhibited. In her latest work, I Am My Ancestors and Coming to America, she explores cultural identity and immigration by photographing herself as her grandmother, both in Romania and the United States.

Matyas is een fotograaf wiens interesses familierelaties, cultuur en psychologie combineren. Ze begon haar carrière als journalist en stapte vervolgens over naar de beeldende kunst. Haar werk omvat intieme settings in Mexico, Roemenië en de Verenigde Staten. De meeste van haar beelden zijn figuratief en gebruiken directe familie, vrienden en haarzelf. Haar portfolio van het leven op het platteland van Mexico omvat 30 jaar en werd in het voorjaar van 2019 als monografie gepubliceerd door Daylight Books. In 2002 behaalde ze haar MFA in fotografie aan de Arizona State University. leidde vele jongerenworkshops. Haar beelden worden op grote schaal verzameld en tentoongesteld. In haar nieuwste werk, I Am My Ancestors en Coming to America, verkent ze culturele identiteit en immigratie door zichzelf te fotograferen als haar grootmoeder, zowel in Roemenië als in de Verenigde Staten.
