This is an old growth pine root found at 11,500ft in the White River forest in Colorado in the rocky mountains. I retrieved the wood while trudging through the untrailed wilderness. The small burl on the front of the piece caught my eye. Originally, the piece was whole. I hollowed the middle to reveal just the outer layer which was hidden beneath the rotten bark layer. The sculpture took roughly 100 hours to complete by hand. The steel was rough cut for me to shape and polish.
