Maria Petroff, a self-taught figurative artist, seamlessly navigates the realms of art between two countries: Russia and Canada. Originally from Moscow, Maria embarked on a journey that led her to Canada in 2009. There, she pursued Business Administration studies at the University of Quebec in Montreal. The vibrant artistic atmosphere of the "North American Montmartre" kindled Maria's childhood passion for painting, prompting her to rekindle her artistic pursuits. After completing her academic studies, Maria made the bold decision to forge a career in the realm of art.

Maria Petroff defines her artistic style as critical realism, a mode of expression that resonates with her fascination for individuals who have left an indelible mark on history. Whether they be politicians, scientists, artists, philosophers, or fictional characters, Maria is drawn to capturing their essence on canvas. Her inspiration stems from contemporary world events, and she engages in in-depth research to uncover the often overlooked or alternative aspects of historical narratives. This unbiased approach allows Maria to depict long-forgotten historical events and draw thought-provoking parallels with the present. Infused with a touch of light humor, her works serve as poignant reflections on contemporary social and political issues.

Actively participating in international art contests and exhibitions, Maria Petroff's artistic prowess has garnered recognition. She has also contributed her artistic talents to book covers, collaborating with the esteemed author and economist, V. Katasonov. Notably, her painting found a place of honor in the pages of the Swiss weekly magazine Die Weltwoche.
