Leo Strand ( 1945-) was born and raised in Salvador. Whilst training to be an electronic engineer, he also studied art under the direction of the local artist Carl Brusell. His work has been influenced by Picasso, Gorky and Klimt but above all the Brazilian and especially Bahia atmosphere. In his works you sense the North East life style including the landscape, carnival, sailboats, and even the brothels of the 1960's. His works have been exhibited at Alliance Française in Salvador and his art can be found in private collections as distant from Salvador as London, Chicago and Hong Kong.
