These paintings are all on stretched canvas and painted in oil. They represent my Chicago work, done since moving to Chicago from New York in 1989. Unlike my New York paintings of the 80's these are painted in oil and are painted on white grounds. All these paintings range from approximately 20 to 28 inches square. (51 to 71 cm square)

For the last couple of decades I have been painting mostly smaller works. These are a few of my larger paintings. Paintings before 1990 were mostly painted in acrylic (on stretched canvas). After 1990, I have painted exclusively with oil paint (on stretched canvas).

This is a 6 plate (6 color) lithograph that was produced by the Robert Blackburn studio in New York. I used brush and oil crayon to make the various plates, but most of the lithographic arts; the aligning and the inking of the plates, as well as the running them through the presses, etc. were all done by the competent Robert Blackburn Studio staff with whom I worked. This lithograph is in the Brooklyn Museum as well as several other museums across the US.

Art isn't an idea, it isn't a theory, it isn't a passing reflection in a
moving bus window, a momentary reflection of banal existence, flashed out, and
forgotten.
Art is something else. Art is an artifact. A token from one age to another, that transmits
something deeply personal, deeply human.
Like the smell of a good perfume, or the taste of a good dinner, or love of one's child;
good
art can not be quantified, explained; but it DOES exist. It captures the essence of that
which it is to
be human, and when they tear away the lava, and uncover the pictures and statues that
have lay hidden for eons, the painted face of the boy, the out-stretched marble hand of the
mother, speaks beyond language, culture and time, and touches the heart. Great art, like
beauty and love, cannot be defined, but it is nevertheless real: very real.
