Leonid Svintsitsky was born in 1953 in Donetsk. In 1973 he graduated from the Crimean Art College named after N.S. Samokish. From 1973 to 1979 he studied at the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography named after S.A. Gerasimov (VGIK). He has worked as a production designer at Mosfilm since 1980.
Leonid Svintsitsky has been awarded a large number of prizes and awards. In 1993, his work on the film "Dreams" (directed by Karen Shakhnazarov) was awarded the professional prize "Green Apple - Golden Leaf" in the nomination "Best work of a production designer". In 2003, for the film "The Key to the Bedroom" (dir. Eldar Ryazanov) the artist was nominated for the National Award of Cinematographers "Nika" and the National Award of Film Criticism and Film Press "Golden Aries". In 2016, he was awarded a diploma from the Russian Academy of Arts for the artistic solution of the serial films "Temptation" (dir. Olga Subbotina) and Lyudmila Gurchenko (directed by Sergey Aldonin, Alexander Imakin).
The artist worked a lot on easel painting and graphics in a variety of directions: landscape, genre scenes, still-life. The artist's favorite technique was dry pastel, which he perfected throughout his career. His unique author's style is noteworthy. Leonid Svintsitsky's works are distinguished by vivid philosophical images, a complex color palette and an expressive touch. In recent years, his attention has been attracted by the most complex artistic genre - portrait. The artist painted about thirty images of the country's leading cinematographers: directors, cameramen, and producers.
Leonid Svintsitsky has participated in numerous exhibitions in Russia and abroad. Among them were solo exhibitions in the Central House of Cinematographers, in the gallery "New Way" in Yevpatoria, in the Exhibition Hall of the Moscow Union of Artists and others. The artist's works are in the collections of the Mosfilm Museum and in private collections in Russia, Finland, Germany, Sweden and the USA.
In 2001, he received the title of "Honored Artist of the Russian Federation" for his services in the field of culture.
Leonid Svintsitsky was a member of the Board of the Union of Cinematographers of Russia, the Board of the Guild of Film and Television Artists of the Russian Federation, the Moscow Union of Artists.
Tragically passed away in 2021.
