Ken Lerner è un appassionato fotografo, nato in una famiglia di rinomati fotografi. Ha iniziato a scattare foto all'età di 6 anni, usando una macchina fotografica regalatagli dal padre. Ma non era interessato a riprodurre semplicemente momenti di vita reale. La sua visione era più soggettiva e cercava di proiettare la realtà interiore di quel momento.
All'inizio della sua carriera, creava quasi esclusivamente immagini con esposizioni multiple. Questo conferiva una struttura complessa alle immagini e rappresentava una visione soggettiva del mondo. Negli anni 2010, dopo aver lavorato nella vendita di prodotti finanziari, è tornato alla fotografia producendo solo immagini a singola esposizione. Sebbene fossero strutturalmente meno complesse, rappresentavano comunque una visione soggettiva del mondo, essendo quasi totalmente astratte. Ken lavora ampiamente con superfici riflettenti come acqua, vetro e metallo.
Amante della bellezza della natura, Ken Lerner dipinge e fotografa numerosi paesaggi e marine. È interessato a presentare diverse possibilità di rappresentazione della "natura" e spesso produce numerose varianti di un'immagine con colori, sfumature, contrasti e saturazioni differenti.
