Nato a Shanghai nel 1969, la carriera artistica di Zhang Chunlei è iniziata in giovane età quando è stato apprendista dal famoso pittore cinese, il maestro Jiang Fengbai. Nel 1992 si è laureato presso la Suzhou University School of Arts con un certificato professionale in design decorativo. Ha continuato la sua formazione artistica in Giappone nel 1995. Nel 2003, Zhang ha conseguito un MBA presso la University of South Australia. Attualmente vive e lavora a Singapore e la sua pratica artistica si estende tra Singapore e Shanghai, in Cina.
Influenzata dalla filosofia Lao Zhuang, che sostiene la bellezza e l'equilibrio artistico, la tecnica pittorica di Zhang prevede la creazione di una serie di punti, linee e piani a trama fitta, intrecciando una formazione mirata con colori alternati. Questo concetto di fusione di elementi figurativi e astratti si traduce in un'opera d'arte straordinaria.
Le opere di Zhang sono state acquisite da collezionisti privati e aziendali come UOB Singapore, Marriot Hotel (Pechino), Yucun Art Museum e Suzhou Daily (Cina), Shangri-La Hotel, Legend Hotel, Times Square Hotel e Grand Margherita Hotel (Malesia) e Far East Plaza e Meritus Mandarin Hotel a Singapore.
