Robert Jan Overeem lavora come sceneggiatore per produzioni televisive, ma è attivo da molto tempo anche come pittore. Per diversi anni ha utilizzato come fonte di ispirazione principalmente manuali didattici (spesso medici) dell'inizio del XX secolo, con come controparte il lavoro dei "pittorialisti" dell'epoca. Ciò ha dato vita a una serie di dipinti molto apprezzati che hanno trovato il loro posto su molte pareti. Robert Jan non utilizza la proiezione, ma allestisce l'opera tradizionalmente con prima carboncino e poi con una pittura di fondo. Gli piace lavorare con la pittura acrilica o ad olio e sperimentare anche altri materiali e tecniche. Gli piace il fatto che non si smette mai di imparare questa professione e che ci siano sempre nuovi ostacoli artistici da superare.
