FREEDOM LAND, 100x100 oil on canvas

Land of freedom, but written as the name of an imaginary place.
In the center of the scene, the baby girl and her lion represent the feminine and masculine energies, the intuitive, creative mind and the rational mind: the energy of doing, the ego, the conditionable mind.
Only those with an open intuitive mind can master their fears; this, I think, was the meaning of Christ's words: "Let the children come to me." He was perhaps exhorting us all to let the child in us spring up, with our intuitive minds.
Einstein once said: "The intuitive mind is a Sacred Gift, while the rational mind is a faithful servant". Gift means something that doesn't come from us, sacred means Divine; intuition, creativity are a Divine Gift and to receive it we just have to Listen.
Here is the little girl, representing feminine energy, intuition, the Sacred Gift, guiding the lion, the rational mind and, at the same time, being guided by him in an impervious environment: they support each other in unity.
The desert sand in the foreground, a cactus, the tall weed in the field, the high mountains in the background; you might say: this is not children’s stuff. Nevertheless, she faces it fearlessly, with the help of the lion.
The baby girl’s face is deliberately painted with a serious expression, austere and serene at the same time; the righteous center, as Sai Baba said. She does not let herself be taken by emotions, fears or the discouragement of being in a hostile environment. She listens, she is peace, and she knows the Truth.
On her left, the lion is intentionally painted with a naive, almost stupefied expression, but he too radiates, in his own way, peacefulness. He would never ever think of attacking the baby girl!
The desert recalled by the sand and the cactus also has another meaning. It represents introspection and meditation, the silence that the Masters wanted to listen (Christ meditates in the desert) and that the baby girl, free of conditioning, can hear.
In the first Canto of Inferno, Dante finds himself in the dark forest of spiritual doubt and when he sees the sunny hill, from where his "Guru" Virgilio speaks to him, he would like to reach him as soon as possible (desire again). Dante, however, is stopped by the wild beasts, that represent his fears, vices, weaknesses: the untamed lion, the dominating ego.
The baby girl, like all children, is free from the influence of ego. We are all born free, but we end up being conditioned. Not the child, she is emancipated and can support the lion, she can even pull it by the mane.
Lion in nature attack to get food or to protect their puppies. On the contrary, men attack for greed, to satisfy their desires. The ego is a beast thirsty with the desire of the more, it is never satisfied. Only when the feminine and masculine energies are balanced, only when we can listen to the sound of the Beyond, then the ego calms down, leads us and is led.
The scene is dominated by the color purple, the color of the seventh Chakra, Sahasrara, of the seventh sky (Ananda), the sky of unity with the Whole. Unity with other human beings, nature, the universe. Only without conditionings and fears, it is possible to reach the unity that comes from the Beyond and to recognize the daily miracle. A great enlightened man said: "There are two ways of living: living as if everything was a miracle or living as if nothing was".
Finally the sky, the painting of a vision in which a light blue sun with four moons around it, begins to bring a new light into the scene. In the initial phase, night still dominates, but in a while everything will be enlighted by day: a perfect equilibrium. The Sun that changes the world, brings out our child, our inner-self, and leads us to Freedom Land.

Enrico (Kiko) Cristoni was born in Modena on 14 April 1971 and grew up under the influence of his father painter. Already in his childhood, he made drawings for his father's works and began a process of study of painters’ manuals and works, coming into contact with different styles.

As a teenager, he abandoned his artistic path to follow his studies and, after graduating in Economics, he began to carry out other activities in private companies.

In 2010, the passion is rekindled and his painting activity starts again, with the production of several works. Today, urged by friends and acquaintances who work in the artistic field, he decides to exhibit his works and present them to the public.

In the latest years, takes part in a number of art exhibitions among the others with the association Napoli Nostra from Naples and the Wikiarte Gallery from Bologna.
