BJATAKLITREN
Pratt Institute - East Hall Gallery - 200 Willoughby Avenue
Hale Gungor’s new exhibition “Bjataklitren” can be viewed at Pratt Institute through November 16-20, 2009.
“Cultural complexities are abundantly found in the international education of Hale Gungor. Born in Adana, Turkey, in 1981, the artist moved to Switzerland at the age of four. Four years later she moved to Istanbul, where at the age of fifteen she studied art—sculpture and drawing—for the first time. In the year 2000, she left for Paris to study at the Parsons School of Design, from which she received her BFA in 2004. She is currently studying painting at Pratt Institute in New York City. The broad range of Gungor’s education, along with her fluency in several languages, make her an artist of unusual sophistication, someone at home in different parts of the world. At the same time, however, despite being widely traveled, Gungor holds true to both figuration and whimsy, elements not often seen in contemporary international art. Her strong technical skills, along with a penchant for narrative, enables Gungor to produce paintings of startling charm and invention.” J.Goodman
