Our senses are essentially delusional. A doorway yes but also a filter. So much chaos surrounds us yet we are able to make sense of it and live effectively. These paintings take this idea as a starting point. The background is usually layered atop an existing art piece or textured object, found or purchased at flea markets or on the street. The palette is generally decided already by what already exists but can be tuned to fit if an idea is in place before work begins. This first applied layer attempts to create a vast chaotic field, representative of the intangible energetic environment we live in. The foreground layers fracture this with lines forming primarily triangles with opaque fields filled in. This speaks of the reality we are aware of- filtered and diluted into something more tangible and readable. The pieces are generally created using Acrylic applied with knives, brushes only being used to finish the top opaque layers. Begun in Brussels in 2018 and continuing currently.

Greg Bryce is a contemporary Scottish multidisciplinary artist based in Spain. In late 2017, he made a significant decision to abandon his career as a landscape architect and botanical designer, fully embracing his passion for art. The shift led him to relocate from Edinburgh to Brussels, where he wholeheartedly dedicated himself to the exploration of his visual ideas.

Greg's artistic approach is characterized by a unique perspective on the world. His work is a manifestation of his ability to see the world differently, perceiving rhythm and color in everything. Combining his roles as a percussionist and an artist, Greg posits that all sound and space are inherently composed of rhythms. This viewpoint stems from a lifelong fascination with color, particularly bright hues, which manifested early on, as recounted by his family's recollection of his color-organizing antics in a doctor's office at the age of one.

Within his artistic practice, Greg maintains a base playfulness that seeks to order the world and celebrate color, emphasizing a primal creativity inherent in all individuals. Specializing in abstract painting and drawing, along with environmental site/material-specific installations, his work is a vibrant exploration of form and expression.

Greg's artistic journey has been marked by wide recognition, with exhibitions across Europe and residency periods in Brussels, Belgium, Assisi, Italy, and Gothenburg, Sweden. In addition to his artistic pursuits, Greg contributes to the art community as a co-op council member of The Society of Scottish Artists. His work draws inspiration from challenging fundamental principles, delving into aspects such as the human senses, self, space, scales, and, of course, rhythm. Greg Bryce's creations invite viewers to reconsider the world through his distinctive lens, where vibrant colors and rhythmic patterns intertwine to offer a fresh and dynamic perspective on fundamental principles.
