JULIA KISSINA
(*1966 in Kiev)
Julia Kissina is a German-Russian writer and artist. She was a representative of the Moscow Conceptualists and the so-called “different prose” in literature. She lived in Moscow until 1990 and subsequently moved to Berlin.
Her literary works were translated in many languages. Her most recent publication was the short story volume “Vergiß Tarantino” and the novels “Frühling auf dem Mond” and “Elephantinas Moskauer Jahre”.
Julia Kissina also became well-known as an artist. In the 1990s, she devoted herself to conceptual photography and performance art. One of the main topics in Kissina’s art deals with the perception of beauty and the changes in this perception through the observer. In the series “Fairies”, she created portraits of young women with headdress made of meat. These images are graceful and disconcerting at the same time. This ambivalence is key for the artist.
Lambda-Color print in an edition size of 50 copies. Copy 6/50.
Julia Kissina has had numerous international gallery and museum exhibitions. Large format prints from the “Faries” series have also been auctioned off at Christie’s and Sotheby’s.
