Artist (Sculpture, Drawing)

"I created a visual performance language in an effort to roll all of my passions into one thing. I enjoyed the idea of selling people an experience, rather than an object."

Fleur Elise Noble is a contemporary award-winning Australian artist. She works with the mediums of drawing, painting, sculpture, puppetry, costume, set design, animation, film, projection mapping, performance and dance to create artworks, animated films and visual performances.

Fleur has a background in visual arts, physical theatre and community arts. She studied on full scholarships at art schools in Adelaide (Adelaide Central School of Art) and New York (New York Studio School). In 2008 she was a directing intern with Zen Zen Zo Physical Theatre, after which she went on to perform in a number of dance / physical theatre productions. Fleur has been awarded many grants and awards for her work.

Fleur’s most renowned work to date is her visual theatre performance ‘2-Dimensional Life of Her’, a work made of drawing, animation, puppetry, projection and paper, that explored ideas around the act of creation. 2-D Life of Her was invited to perform at over 40 venues and festivals around the world, including; The 2012 London Mime festival at The Barbican, the 2013 Under The Radar Festival at The Public Theatre in New York, as well as in LA, Brazil, Iran, South Korea and extensively throughout Europe, Australia and New Zealand.  In 2011 2D Life of Her was selected to represent Australia at the World Congress of Theatre for Young People in Denmark & Sweden, and in 2013 she was awarded a prestigious Bessie (New York Dance and Theatre Award) for most Outstanding Visual Design.

ROOMAN is Fleur’s second major production, and like her first, the story and physical material that she uses to tell it was developed and refined over about 7 years. ROOMAN is a rich tapestry of puppetry, projection, drawing, dance and sound installation. Like a low-tech hologram, or a high-fi paper pop-up book, ROOMAN takes the audience on a journey inside worlds of animated universes as they unfold upon a giant 3-dimensional paper set. ROOMAN premiered at ARTS HOUSE in Melbourne in 2017 before going on to tour in Slovenia, The Netherlands and New Zealand.

Fleur has also worked as a workshop leader and media producer on the SharingStories Foundation’s Digital Storytelling Workshops since 2012- facilitating drawing, animation, film-making and projection projects with elders and young people in remote indigenous communities across Australia.

"I created a visual performance language in an effort to roll all of my passions into one thing. I enjoyed the idea of selling people an experience, rather than an object."

Fleur created thousands of drawings, puppets and sculptures in the process of making these shows. During, and in between touring, she continued to draw, paint and sculpt. While she still travels with her performances, her current focus is on on connecting with young people, and exploring how creative practices can have a positive effect on mental health issues.
