Julia Eulogia Merle Tortora is a contemporary Spanish artist, illustrator, and cultural activist. Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, she has lived in Madrid for over 20 years, where she works as an illustrator for prominent publications such as El País in Spain and La Nación in Argentina. In 2012, she began exploring her personal artistic work, a shift that coincided with her experience of becoming a mother. This transition, along with raising her son and creating her home-studio, became part of a unified aesthetic gesture.
Julia's art is conceived as a game, where everything unfolds in real time. She is drawn to abstract figuration, a space where chance, unconscious gestures, and the sensitivity of drawing are in delicate balance. She aims to reach a precise point where the viewer's participation becomes fundamental, inviting new interpretations and starting points. Her recurring themes include connections and identity, which are central to her artistic exploration.
