Erseel
After completing his secondary education in the Netherlands with a focus on wood techniques and language studies, Ersen Boğutekin attended a fine arts high school in 2016. He graduated with honors from Erciyes University, Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Painting in 2020, and began his master’s degree in 2021, completing it in 2025 to gain expertise in his field. Living between two cultures, Ersen aims to develop a global language through conceptual and physical collages, reflecting the dynamic structure of memory. Under the main theme of “Woman,” he brings sub-themes such as gender/social gender, identity, belonging, and the relationship between time and culture to the forefront of his work. While his pieces may initially appear to open the doors to a colorful and playful world, they embed Eastern narratives within a Western/contemporary language that carries a surreal and expressive atmosphere. The act of “being a woman” is explored through themes such as geography, patriarchal social structures, contemporary and nostalgic perspectives, family dynamics, mother-daughter relationships, popular culture imagery, cartoon characters, and the challenges of everyday life. While creating a bridge between contemporary cultures, Boğutekin presents an amorphous visuality, establishing a contrast between spontaneity and mechanical structure.
