Gallant age

Gallant century is called the XVIII century. Yes, he seems to have called himself so, at his end, which ended with the French Revolution. A century of crazy flirting, graceful burning of life, a century of passion for trifles and trinkets, subtle etiquette and colossal sloppiness. (As you know, there were no toilets in Versailles.) But history, fortunately for us, retains more good, in any case, in our brief memoirs and associations. We do not see bedbugs in the canopies of dead kings. And from the Gallant Age, we still have respect for the woman, subtlety of treatment, delicacy and observance of complex, but beautiful rituals. (Gally Jimson)

Галантным веком принято называть век XVIII. Да и сам себя он так, кажется, называл, на своем исходе, закончившемся Великой Французской революцией. Век безумного флирта, изящного прожигания жизни, век увлечения пустяками и безделушками, тонкого этикета и колоссальной неряшливости. (В Версале, как известно, не было туалетов.) Но история, по счастью для нас, сохраняет больше хорошего , во всяком случае, в кратких наших воспоминаниях и ассоциациях. Мы не видим клопов в балдахинах умерших королей. И от Галантного века нам осталось уважение перед женщиной, тонкость обращения, деликатность и соблюдение сложных, но красивых ритуалов. (Галли Джимсон)
