Paris in paper - Paris differently Metro Bir Hakeim Paper cutouts are an art form that has existed in China since the invention of paper. In a scholar like Wong Wa, the cultural heritage is obvious. His personal transcript is another. The cut paper is a form of shadow-light sculptures, a puzzle in the making. It gives greater freedom, more latitude in the composition and creation of the movement. An assiduous visitor to Parisian museums, Wong Wa thought of putting in image his vision of the landscape which is offered to him when he leaves the museum. After a quick sketch on the spot, the game will consist in exploring the impressions, the sensations of the time in order to recreate not the landscape between glimpses, but a new vision, a "Paris otherwise" far from realistic or photographic approaches, far too of the idea that the artist had formed of this landscape when he apprehended it. A thousand leagues from reproduction, imitation, a more expressionist art. It is not a question of adding yet another album inspired by Paris, but of revisiting the city in “sculpture paintings”, all in movement and in strokes of light. Monuments and sculptures, avenues and flags “show themselves” differently.
