Mélancholia 2 (2012) Printmaking by Suo Yuan Wang

WANG SUOYUAN

Born in Shanghai, China. His father introduced him to photography.  Currently lives and works in Paris.

1993 He studies diamond setting (for jewelry). Then apprenticed at the Shanghai Diamond Factory in 1996.

1997 He enters as a graphic designer in advertising, while following the self-taught courses of the Normal University ofShanghai (Decorative Art Design section), graduated in 2001.

2002 Arrived in France to continue his art studies. They were on break for family and educational reasons at the time.

2003 He joined the School of Fine Arts of Versailles (engraving section).

2005 After graduating from E.B.A.V., he learned the Hayter Method and the burin in the Atelier Contrepoint (ex-Atelier 17by Stanley William Hayter) to deepen his knowledge of printmaking, and to experiment with it.

2006 While feeding on new things, the art he knew of his native country as a child came back to him constantly at the sametime. He decides to give up all the techniques he learned from the fine arts before, for a more personal research onthe variations of the line, in order to create your own language of expression which is like a pictorial writing.

2012 He is admitted to the collective engraving workshop of the Cité internationale des arts to continue his research there.

2021 He is currently in residence at the OpenBach (Paris) to develop his personal projects
