Vladimir Velickovic was a Serbian-French artist known for his contributions to contemporary art. He was born on August 11, 1935, in Belgrade, Serbia, and passed away on August 29, 2019, in Paris, France. Velickovic was a prominent figure in the art world, particularly associated with the School of Paris and the Narrative Figuration movement. He was honoured with the highest French award in the field of culture and arts, the Commander of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres.
His work often featured themes of violence, war, and human suffering, reflecting his personal experiences growing up in a war-torn region and later living through the turmoil of the 20th century. He was influenced by various art movements, including Surrealism and Pop art, and his style evolved over the years, combining elements of abstraction and figuration.
Velickovic's art included paintings, drawings, and prints. He was acclaimed for his powerful and emotional depictions of the human condition, often characterized by bold, expressive brushwork and a dark, intense palette. His work can be found in museums and galleries around the world, and he left a lasting impact on the contemporary art scene, both in Serbia and internationally.
