What are the differences between multiples, reproductions and limited editions

Multiples:
Limited edition prints of etchings, prints, lithographs, photography, digital arts, or sculptures are considered original works.

Limited series:
These are limited edition prints, numbered and signed by the artist. These are not unique works, but reproductions limited in number.

The reproductions :
This is an unlimited edition and without signature or numbering by the artist. These reproductions can also be sold under the name "Open Edition".

Are limited editions or multiples considered original works?
The notion of "unique work" is clear, the work must exist in only 1 copy.
On the other hand, the notion of original work is more complex and varies according to the number of copies produced, and the laws of the different countries. In France for example, the print run is limited to 30 copies for a photograph or digital art and 8 copies for a sculpture to be considered an original work of art. American legislation is more permissive and allows the production of a large number of copies, while retaining the notion of "original work" for each copy produced. For engravings and lithographs, the prints are limited, according to the practices of the profession, to a few hundred prints.

On Artmajeur, we consider that to benefit from the qualifier "original work", the work must be numbered, and have the signature of the artist, or of the master printer (if the reproductions are created after the disappearance of the artist).
