Quand votre coeur d'enfant s'exprime... (2021) Painting by Brigitte Conan (Steva)

I like to explore, imagine, create poetic and colorful universes. I started painting with gouache (when I was 11 years old) and later with oil paint. Currently I express myself mainly in acrylic. These textures allow for all kinds of boldness, including collages. A preference for small and medium formats, max. 100x100 cm. I also try my hand at papier-mâché sculptures, mobiles for example.My favourite themes: houses (improbable architecture), nature, music...

. My creations often have a link with childhood. My favorite artists: Van Gogh, Dali, Rosa Bonheur, the Delaunays, the Surrealists. Gaudi's architecture also inspires me with its beautifully twisted constructions...
My studies at the School of Fine Arts in Brest, scheduled for 1981 - after the baccalaureate - were prevented due to a lack of material means.
In 1988 I had a decisive meeting in the presence of Madame Marie de Holmsky-gallery of the same name, 80 rue Bonaparte in Paris. She will set out all my pseudo Steva.

Later, I trained with a few painters and also at the Ipedec (Institute of Decorative Painting) in Pantin during internships.
At the same time, I stabilized myself with a job at the RATP in the Paris metro. The company officially commissioned my first painting in 2002, and other orders followed. In 1991 my son Vivien was born and five years later my daughter Gaëlle was born. In spite of everything, I continue to paint.
My first exhibitions are very encouraging. After a good twenty years spent in Paris, I returned to Brittany in 2009 where I contacted several associations of rural communes in the region of Morlaix (Finistère) with whom I exhibited. From 2013 to 2015, I was a painting facilitator in schools. I created a fresco in Morlaix (29) in 2017 at the Pôle petite enfance. The chosen theme: the tree. I was invited to the Saint-Brieuc Art Biennial in 2019 (association of painters and sculptors of Brittany).

During the lockdown of 2019, I invented the character of the "fish", small hybrid beings, always benevolent, resulting from the mixture between a fish and a bird. Several paintings depict them. A book/photos is published at the author's own expense. In 2019 and 2020, conquered by the historic city of Dinan which is my city of heart, I took over the management of a studio/gallery in the famous rue du Jerzual during the summer season. I will return to Dinan in 2023 for a new season but in a different area of the city. In the meantime, I am exhibiting at the Vauxhall in Vaux-Sur-Sûre in Belgium (October 2022) at the invitation of an art teacher. It will be a great experience!
