Sonja Brussen

Lochem, Netherlands
Artist (Painting)
Born 1974

Sonja Brussen is a contemporary award-winning Dutch painter. The greatest source of inspiration for her is nature. She aims to catch the moment, the speed of light, and the cloud change. Capturing light, air, and space is a daily chase and quest.

Her striking artwork fuses impressionism and expressionism, and her technique and color choices are powerful and very unique. She is influenced by the weather in the field, including the sun, cold, wind, and rain. All of these inspirations have an impact on how her art is created and how it feels. She also considers the sounds of nature, such as birdsong, wind, waves breaking, and bushes rustling, to be important. Because of how intensely she has experienced nature, when you look at her artwork, you immediately feel as though you are in the center of that particular piece of nature. As a result, you are experiencing nature firsthand rather than just viewing an image of it.

Sonja Brussen was born in 1974, in the Netherlands. Brussen is a member of the Dutch Association of Sea Painters and the Katwijkerkring. Her paintings are in private collections in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, France, Thailand, Ireland, England, USA, Singapore, Canada, Italy, Switzerland, United Arab Emirates, Scotland, Sweden, Australia.
