Her interest in Eastern culture led her to the philosophy of Tao, with the unifying lines of Yin and Yang forming the circle. Combined with her interest in curves and the organic, the circle became her main focus.

Sonia’s work is framed within abstract symbolism. Her main theme brought her to the circle as a universal symbol, and the encounter between the aesthetic philosophy of western and eastern discourse.

The sphere is the compositional figure that contrasts with other bodies in the complementary game of opposites.

Each of Sonia’s current works is a compositional game between the simplicity of the circle and the organic complexity of colours and landscapes.

Born in Barcelona in 1974, her father was an architect and this lead her to start drawing at an early age. Her uncle was also a sculptor (Claudio Tarragó) and this greatly influenced her to follow a career in art.

She attended art school at  the age of 16, studying sculpture, influenced by Henry Moore and Giacometti. After this, studied at the Universidad de Bellas Artes (Sant Jordi) in Barcelona. During the 5 years at university she studied sculpture under the renowned sculptor Salvador Jassans.

After her studies she moved into digital art and art design and set up her own design company, which ultimately led her to move her focus to painting.

Whilst at an  Artist Residence Association Saint Henri in France she developed her love of painting, working with water colours and acrylics.

She has a strong interest in philosophy and oriental arts, I Ching, Tao Te King Lao Tse and Sumi-e technique, all of which has influenced her concepts and style as an artist.
