'' A Kashmiri Midsummer Day's Dream'' inspired by a dear friend's visit to Shill Villa, a lovely house in Srinagar that was our home for a couple of years, and by the beauty and culture of the Kashmir Valley; in Kashmir, the stuff you see outdoors, the flora n fauna, Nature's beauty at her best, are painstakingly handcrafted indoors, reflecting in the paper mache artefacts, the rugs, the samovar, the aari work embroidery by the art-loving people. Art was and still is in the blood of the people here, before blood came to stain the arts for a not-so-brief patch... The lady in the art work is a friend, Garima who had come visiting us in ''Raazi House'' as we call it as key scenes of the Bollywood film, Raazi had been shot here. The pretty pose Garima struck as she had a pic taken before a beautiful bower of roses, the defining feature of Raazi House, set in motion the conceptual idea of the work- Garima on a magical carpet, flying over the beautiful vale and the beautiful vale and the details kept adding themselves.

Artist's bio lines :

Dr Simple Mohanty's passion for art since childhood saw her trying to capture the fascinating beauty of nature- whether azure skies, the play of light and shade on foliage, or the multi-hued iridescence of flowers- on paper.

As a creative artist she has been deeply touched by the beauty, balance, rhythm, resilience and vibrant colours of nature and natural cycles, which  find their ways of manifesting in the bustle of human life and culture as well. She is drawn towards subjects that reflect these- they could be flowers, water bodies, animals, still life or people in the midst of any or all of these. Her sujects, are therefore, organically connected to nature. She tries to capture on canvas the very soul, vitality and life force of the subjects, whose beauty moves her.

It is this passion which enables her to juggle painting with her teaching career. She is a doctorate and an Assistant Professor in Political Science in a Delhi University college. Starting with water colours, her first love due to the translucency of the medium, she has found it equally exciting to venture into oils, acrylics and  pencil on canvas, at ease with both brush and spatula. The subject, style and strokes of her works are closest to the impressionistic & expressionistic genres, although rooted in representationalism. She has been part of several group art shows in Delhi & Jaipur including the International Lalit Kala Mela, at Lalit hotel's Art Junction, Open Palm Court Gallery, IHC, AIFACS, CSOI art gallery, Light Space & Time online Gallery and RPR gallery
