Samy Sfoggia is a women artist and photographer who shoots with film cameras and works primarily with 35mm black and white film. Her negatives are scanned at a high quality, and the images are changed digitally: assemblages, color inversion, and drawings on a tablet. After that, the pictures are printed, and Samy uses a knife and oil paint to draw on paper. The pictures are scanned again and printed out again. Samy uses photography as a tool in her creative process, but this is not the only way she makes art. She tries to show how the subconscious mind works by using strange images and putting things together that seem to go against each other. Her pictures are like snapshots of a dream that are on purpose confusing and don't make sense. She tries to make it look like a nightmare.
Samy Sfoggia is born in Porto Alegre (Brésil) in 1984. She has a degree in History from FAPA (2007), a bachelor's degree in Visual Arts from UFRGS (2014) and a postgraduate degree in Art, Body and Education from the same institution (2009). Her work has been published on several websites and international magazines (Lost At E Minor; International Times; Kaltblut Magazine, etc). She was the winner of the Garimpo Contest 2014, of DASartes Magazine. In 2022 he received as a prize a distance professional mentorship with Ateliê Oriente for 3rd place in the 11th edition of Prix Photo Alliance Française.
