Samantha Schmid stands is a contemporary sculptor based in France. Samantha embarked on her artistic voyage with a solid foundation in Switzerland, spending four formative years studying at the Federal Arts and Crafts College in Vevey. Armed with knowledge and creative drive, she went on to earn a decorator diploma, a pivotal step in her artistic evolution.
For two decades thereafter, Samantha's life took her to various corners of Africa and Asia. It was during this time that she generously shared her artistic knowledge, teaching the nuances of art to eager minds while also immersing herself in the rich tapestry of local art techniques. This immersive experience not only broadened her artistic horizons but also allowed her to embrace the cultural diversity that would later inform her work.
In 1985, a new chapter unfolded as Samantha planted her roots in Southern France. Here, she unveiled her professional glass studio—a sanctuary for her artistic expressions. Within this studio, Samantha exclusively practices the meticulous craft of cold work with float glass, a medium known for its delicacy and intricacy.
Her artistic process is a symphony of techniques that include etching, engraving, bevelling, polishing, coloring, and bonding. What sets Samantha apart is her ability to infuse her creations with unique techniques, some of which she has painstakingly developed herself. Every piece that emerges from her studio is an embodiment of her artistic vision, and each one is a singular work of art.
Samantha's creations, marked by the ethereal beauty of glass, are a testament to her commitment to craftsmanship and creativity. Each piece is a celebration of the uniqueness that lies within the medium, resonating with the soul of the artist. Her studio is a realm where light and glass converge, giving birth to timeless works of art that capture the imagination and captivate the observer.
