Born on Nov. 24, 1937, in Phillipsburg, Pa., Ron moved with his large Jewish family to Pittsburgh, where he basically grew up. He went to Columbus, Ohio, to attend Columbus College of Art and Design on a Georges Bellow Scholarship. He taught classes in drawing and painting to put himself through school. He also attended classes at the Kansas City Art Institute and Cranbrook. He taught art in the elementary schools of Manhattan. He also obtained a Master's degree from San Miquel Allende, in Mexico.
