His work is defined by a new and visionary bright lighting that addresses subjects such as life, symmetry, and cityscape.

Richard Dodds grew up in the New York area, went to college in Los Angeles, and worked as a theatrical critic and entertainment reporter for The Times-Picayune newspaper in New Orleans for 21 years. He moved to San Francisco in 1997 and worked as a journalist for The Bay Area Reporter before embarking on a new career as a digital photographer and artist. In 2018, he relocated to Palm Springs, where his art can be shown at the Desert Art Center, the Tim J. Leary Gallery in the Backstreet Art District, and the Artists Council exhibits at the Galen Center in Palm Desert.
