Oil painting on canvas 15P. Copy of Van Gogh's painting 'The Harvest' which is exhibited and which I have been able to contemplate many times at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam. It is worth saying that Van Gogh was directly inspired by Jean-François Millet who had painted several landscapes and works in the fields such as The Angelus, or Winter with Crows, The Sower, or The Meridian (of which Van Gogh's other painting 'The Siesta' is the exact copy transposed in color ). Indeed it was while visiting a sale dedicated to Millet at the Hôtel Drouot in Paris that Van Gogh discovered his vocation as a painter at the age of 22. He then wrote to his brother Theo: “When I arrived in the room where the works of Millet were exhibited, I felt something like “Take off your shoes, the place you walk on is sacred...” And elsewhere still he also wrote "Millet, it's Millet the father, that is to say that he is a guide and adviser in everything for young painters." Van Gogh reproduced more than twenty works by Millet. For more information: .lb/1998/3656/expo.htm. Like Van Gogh, other painters also took the harvest as a subject for life painting in nature. Bruegel in the 16th century, Pissaro in 1876 or Emile Bernard in 1888 and in 1891 with his painting 'The Harvest by the Sea'. But in my opinion, it is the cubist painting by André LHOTE in the 1950s on the landscape of Mirmande which presents the most similarities in its composition and in the choice of the major symbolic elements.
