I was lucky to be a kid who loved science-fiction and fantasy during the 70's. It was a decade which produced incredible art: Frazetta, Anderson, Boris and Lehr (and others) were my heroes, and I would linger in bookstores just to look at their amazing art.

This piece pays tribute to that. A classic theme of monsters and heroines. But if this monster thinks he's caught a damsel in distress, he might be in for a rude surprise... she seems more than capable of handling herself.

The monster itself is not what it at first appears to be; it is actually a collection of plant-like creatures which have grown over, and animated, the skeletal framework of a giant. Which is why tentacles spill from the mouth, and writhe within the hollow eye sockets.

This was a joy to paint. Placing the waves and shafts of sunlight... detailing the moss and bark growing on the trees in the background. I hope you enjoy viewing it as much as I enjoyed creating it. It is my 13th painting, and marks the beginning of my journey to professional science-fiction/fantasy illustrator.

Thank you for viewing my art. -Rebecca
