Aguarela sobre papel Langton Prestige, 300g
(Watercolor on Langton Prestige paper, 300)

Some information about this painting:
Tavira is a Portuguese city in the district of Faro, Algarve (in south of Portugal), with just over 13,000 inhabitants in low season. It’s located on the leeward, I mean, in the Algarve’s eastern part. The climate is temperate Mediterranean.
The Tavira’s coast is an airy and quite city - a small 'Venice of Algarve' crossed by Séqua river, which changes name to Rio Gilão when it reach the Roman bridge (this bridge after all is not Roman, but yes of Islamic origin as was confirmed during a major intervention carried out between the years 1991-1993. But the people continued to name it like roman bridge) - the bridge that I represent in this watercolor.
Tavira has some of the most beautiful beaches of the Algarve and Portugal, all included in the Ria Formosa Natural Park. The sea can reach very pleasant temperatures during the Summer and early Autumn, which can be around 26 ° C in the warmer months. Some of the county's beaches are, for example, Cabanas de Tavira Beach, the Tavira’s Island beach, Barril beach, etc.
The regional architecture is typically adapted to warm temperatures in summer and cold in winter. And as in the all Algarve, one of the typical symbols of the architecture of this region are the chimneys and also the white houses (as you can be seen also in this watercolor).
Like in most of the Algarve coastal area, fishing, aquaculture, salt, agriculture and tourism are the main economic sources of Tavira. Once, like the most of the Algarve coast, Tavira also had a hectic activity in the production of canned fish, now practically extinct. In fact, the tourism industry is a major source of livelihood in this coastal region, like in all Algarve.
Tavira also belongs to the network of Cities Cittaslow (a non-governmental organization, founded in Italy in 1999, which aims to reduce the speed of life in cities seeking to improve the quality of life)
