Alguma informação/Some information:

Every years I visit this enchanting village and every years I draw and painting it. I’m really love Ferragudo. Overlooking on the sea’s waters and the Arade river, and a steep geological feature with a good use by man, the quiet village of Ferragudo is, for me, one of the most beautiful silhouettes planted in the waterfront of the Algarve coast. Located in the county of Lagoa and with about 1980 inhabitants (2011 census), Ferragudo was elevated to a town on 30 June 1999. The history tell us that the place name "Ferragudo" is rooted in the existence of an iron machine, which existed in one of its beaches ( Angrinha beach) and which served to raise the goods and the fish of the vessels. Although the history tell us that Ferragudo appeared around the XIV century, occupied by fishermen seeking the sea to survive and who settled here building humble shacks, there are traces that attest to human presence in these parts in the prehistoric period and that the mouth of the Arade was coveted by the Phoenicians and Carthaginians. Archaeological finds found near to the Fort of St. John the Arade (rooted in a watchtower built in the reign of John II, 1481-1495), also show that the Romans also occupied this region, dedicated to the fishing and promoting industry of fish salting.
Like most of the villages located in the Algarve coast, in the last century the canning industry fostered prosperity in Ferragudo. However, the obsolescence of equipment and the inability to keep pace with technological advances has made this industry unprofitable and subsequent decay. Until about 1970’s fishing remained the main source of income of this village. Currently, as virtually the entire Algarve coast, Ferragudo live from the sea but in another perspective. The beautiful beaches, the river and its privileged location make tourism its main source of livelihood.
