Statue faite dans un tronc d'arbre, dans un bois extrêmement dur, tous mes outils ont eu leur tranchant abîmés, m'obligeant à aiguiser toutes les demi heures. Cette femme qui semble regarder vers le ciel et toute tournée vers l'exterieur représente la mère qui pleure son enfant, qui ne comprend pas, qui chercher à voir le sens de ce qui lui arrive. C'est une image de toutes ces personnes qui sont affectées par la violence, le non-sens, l'absence. C'est aussi une image de notre attitude devant le Mystère. Bien souvent on ne comprend pas, mais on cherche, on supplie l'Autre. Son visage est inquiet, mais à la fois il est aussi sûr d'obtenir la réponse.
Born in 1969, Paul Crochat has been a sculptor since the age of 19. He learned everything from contact with other artists by working with them in France, Italy, Israel, Brazil and El Salvador.
Paul Crochat transforms beautiful woods, driftwood and stones found in carvings. However, he uses a particular and little known technique: he sculpts by leaving the shape that nature has given to the materials to reveal a presence, a face, a hand, an animal etc. He seeks to transmit an interiority and a certain simplicity.
His sculptures can be found in a dozen countries. He works and lives in the plain of Forez, in Montrond-Les-bains.
