Ukrainian poet Taras Shevchenko is a good example of a martyr and rebel for the freedom of Ukraine. Endowed from God with many talents, Taras Shevchenko created poetic masterpieces in two languages, painted wonderful pictures and also had a magnificent singer's voice. He became the best friend of the progressive people of his era, famous Russian poets and writers, artists and composers were worried about his fate, helping to rescue him from captivity. For his achivements Taras Shevchenko could have become extremely rich and swim in luxury and rest on the laurels of his Glory. However, he took the path of a fighter against autocracy, praising the freedom of his native Ukraine.
