Le bleu indigo (la couleur de fond de l'oeuvre) est issu du premier jus d’une feuille d'un arbre du Bénin. Avec le second ou le troisième jus l'artiste obtient le vert et le bleu ciel. Les jaunes sont issus d’un mélange du jus de la noix de cola et du jus de fruit de baobab et également de la terre rouge du village de l’artiste dilué avec le jus de baobab.
