The sculptural composition "Grandfather Mazai" is included in the cycle of works "Bronze Stories" and is a humorous interpretation of Turgenev's fairy tale "Grandfather Mazai and the Hares". The plot of the fairy tale tells the story of a lonely old man who lived in the wilderness and was very fond of animals. Once in the forest, the water level in the river rose greatly, so much so that the hares were in the water and could not swim to the shore. Grandfather Mazai put the hares in the boat and rescued the unfortunate hares.

Oleg Kalashnik was born in 1977, in Ukraine, where he graduated from Kharkiv Art School and Kharkiv State Academy of Design and Arts.
