An illustration inspired by The Dying Gaul, an Ancient Roman marble copy of a lost Hellenistic sculpture.
The Insubres and the Boii wore trousers and light cloaks, but the Gaesatae, in their love of glory and defiant spirit, had thrown off their garments and taken up their position in front of the whole army naked and wearing nothing but their arms...The appearance of these naked warriors was a terrifying spectacle, for they were all men of splendid physique and in the prime of life.
— Polybius, Histories II.28
Kinga Ogiegło's abstract paintings create remarkable illusions of space, allowing the paintings to act as mirrors through which we can redefine ourselves. She defines her work as transformational art that engages the viewer to ponder self-reflection, emotional epiphanies, and personal growth. She lives and works in Oświęcim, Poland.
'I would describe my art as transformational in a way that the process of Self-transformation is made easier and so is the receiving and questioning of the Self. The realization comes that anger, fear or sadness do not have to burn you out but you can integrate these emotions in order to give yourself more determination, power and motivation to experience life. I would like to hope that my art can help people to better understand the impact that their emotions have on their behaviour.
