NOLAN YANG brief introduction

The regional culture of Jiangxi has a long history and is rich in culture. Nolan Yang has a strong interest in traditional wood carving. After graduating from University, he engaged in carving (including bamboo carving, wood carving, brick carving and inkstone carving) in his spare time. During the three years of studying wood carving, Nolan Yang met and visited a group of famous sculptors, learned traditional carving techniques, and made a lot of practice on bamboo, wood, stone and inkstone carving. He traveled thousands of miles, read thousands of books, read a large number of famous sculptures, visited famous mountains and rivers, visited places of interest, and visited major museums in China. He learned from nature and learned from nature. He carefully studied the shape, conception, conception and techniques of his predecessors, and devoted himself to studying traditional masterpieces.

Nolan Yang carves his own works according to his own character, cultivation and concept. He is especially against the so-called “unique style” which is deliberately unconventional and artificial. He thinks that natural and harmonious things are beautiful. The task of sculptors is to explore and express this natural and harmonious beauty through their own artistic language. Carving skills, personality, style must be subject to this purpose, but not superior to it. The sculptor has the freedom to choose the technique of expression, but not the right to violate nature and distort nature. In other words, a sculptor must truly take nature as his teacher. Neither hypocrisy nor half heartedness.

On the basis of traditional woodcarving style, through long-term research and exploration, he has formed a distinctive and personalized artistic language.
