More than 40 years of abstraction(s)!

"Because as a child, a very colorful painting by Maurice Estève changed my way of looking at things and fed my imagination, I feel the need, through my works, to retranscribe the emotional power of abstract art and to share the infinite joy it brings me."

Abstract painted collage, my infinite playground...

Immersed, as a child, in the very colorful universe of the abstract painters of Modern art, I had a very early need to realize, in the form of collages painted in oil, then in acrylic, compositions worthy of a "pure" painter. Small, very architectural formats, where flat work prevails, have thus appeared spontaneously.

Since then, I create, from my feelings, associations of pictorial ideas stemming from the technique of "unconscious scanning" elaborated by Anton Ehrenzweig, and on repetitive musical background.

My pictorial style thus plays with the musicality of dense and joyful compositions where color and forms, orchestrated like voices or instruments that respond to each other, reign supreme.

My works on paper, which often use recycled materials, have become "floating" collages, in mixed media (paper / cardboard / PVC - acrylic / ink / chalk ...). Less formal compositions, dense and abundant, enlarged and tinted with fluorescent, which are freed to "unglue the paint" and "get out of the frame" in freedom. I don't necessarily center them, and I don't fix them entirely to play with shadows and light reliefs.

From the fragments of unstructured papers, seemingly insignificant, a rich and complex story is recomposed, an assembly of scattered memories that intertwine to, little by little, take on a new relief.

... to the colored ceramic sculpture

Since 2015, this call for volume and playfulness also leads me, like Henri Laurens in 1919, to work with clay.

From cut clay plates, I assemble flat and shaped pieces that take on volume, or I model in the mass of sculptures then painted with acrylic, true 3D binomials of my paper collages. Often, abstract characters emerge from the earth without my knowledge, protagonists of imaginary playlets that hold the universe of childhood as an "enchanted merry-go-round", the exuberant and abundant worlds of mythology, baroque opera, lost civilizations ...

After having been centered for a long time on the saturation of forms and colors, my current research turns more towards the relations between the white and the color, the emptiness and the full, the noise and the silence.

My objective?

To share, by revisiting it in a current, joyful and dynamic aesthetic, the marvelous abstract heritage that has guided my life, and above all, to awaken the inner child who is just waiting to express himself...
