Born in Ankara (Turkey) in 1959, Münire Yurdayüksel graduates in 1982 from the Department of Plastic Arts of the Faculty for Vocational Training of the Gazi University in Ankara.

She starts her artistic career as art-mistress in Izmir (Turkey). Later on she moves to Brussels, where next to her activities as an artist painter, she works at the Department for Graphic Design of the Academy for Plastic Arts (RHoK), using different gravure and various other original printing techniques.

Just like the oyster needs a tiny little sand-grain to make a perfect pearl, Münire Yurdayüksel creates her pictures by getting her inspiration from nature and from her fantasy, her dreams and her desires to which she adds colors, creating thus her own perfect pearl.

According to the artist, the painter must be capable of expressing own sentiments and fantasies in order to exalt color and shape and create a harmonious whole… just like the little sand-grain and the oyster who jointly create the pearl.

In her work, the shapes alternate shadows and light and evoke symbols and romantic ideas. The objects and shapes fill the space and give the impression of a permanent movement. They are transformed into fiction where reality and abstraction are approached in a surrealistic manner.

The combination of the relation between surface and depth, with the harmony of colors, shapes and circular movements, form the basic principles of Münire Yurdayüksel’s oeuvre. Color is the most important characteristic of her works. The exchange between warm and cold colors as well as the carefulness with which the various color shades are used, play an important role in the use of space. This creates a dynamic which transforms colors into shapes and shapes into colors.

The overlapping shapes merge with each other, giving the impression as if they were unseperatebly attached. The forms are fused into an organic whole and give an illusion of depth on a varying surface. This results in the creation of dynamic abstract forms.

Münire Yurdayüksel organized an important number of both personal and mixed exhibitions in Turkey and in other countries.

Her work figures in the art collections of the Turkish Ministry of Culture, number of musea, State collections as well as various private collections in Turkey and elsewhere in Europe.
