Marika Jaeger grew up in the wooded hills of Eugene Oregon. A childhood spent traveling and exploring the outdoors led her to study environmental sustainability and conservation in college and graduate school. Passionate about wildlife and wild ecosystems, she was conducting ecology research in the Peruvian Amazon when she began to photograph the magnificent threatened species there. Returning home, she decided she wanted to paint them as a means of sharing an environmental conservation message. Today,
Marika divides her time between environmental research at Stanford University and painting wildlife and ecosystems threatened by human activity. A self-taught artist, she hopes to inspire an awe and interest in the natural world with her paintings.
