Coyotte - Joseph Beuys in America : One day in 1974, the German Conceptual artist Joseph Beuys arrived by plane in New York City, where he was met by assistants who wrapped him in a large piece of felt, placed him in an ambulance, and delivered him to the René Block Gallery in SoHo. Beuys had flown in for an important meeting: Awaiting the artist in the enclosed, if well-lit, gallery space, was a live coyote.

Joseph Beuys having decided not to set foot in the United States before the end of the Vietnam War, wishes to meet with this country only coyote, sacred animal, god of the Indians, representing in his opinion, "the psychological nerve center of the whole system of American energies: the trauma of the American's conflict with the Indian. " It is as a sorcerer, by precise rituals and esoteric gestures that Beuys comes into contact with the animal. The artist leaves as he did, without putting his feet on American soil, the body rolled in a felt blanket, transported in an ambulance, urgently, to Kennedy airport.
My work is the opposite of the concept and states that Joseph Beuys is well - despite himself - entered full foot in this American society.

Ink

A strongly tinted liquid or paste that is used to mark paper or other printable materials. The design is done manually with a slab, feather, brush, or straightener.

Oil

Paint consisting of pigments bound with linseed oil or carnations. The traditional technique consists of superimposing layers of paint increasingly rich in oil for a solid and durable hanger.

Painting Pastel

Pastel is an instrument widely used in plastic arts. Taking the form of a colored plastic stick, it is composed of pigments, a filler (chalk or plaster) and a binder (gum arabic, oil, wax). We mainly distinguish fatty pastels (oil or wax), dry pastels, whether soft or hard. Invented in Europe at the end of the 15th century, this tool was very quickly used by great portrait painters of French royalty, such as Charles Le Brun, Rosalba Carriera, Jean Siméon Chardin or Maurice Quentin de La Tour, who will be considered the "Prince of pastellists", thanks to a method of fixation of which only he knew the secret.

Michel TABANOU explores concepts of time, memory and absence. He is interested in how memory can blur the line between past and present, and allow us to travel back into the past. He often draws, paints on travels, memories and found photographs. Michel TABANOU is inspired by literature and also by his memories of travels that he ends up interspersed in a unique journey in places transposed by his feelings. Another constant of his work is the presence of words, questions, interrogations in a sometimes disillusioned, ironic or philosophical tone. That's why he defines his work as a narrative and plastic reflection. He builds a 'mental maze' for the viewer by including recurring elements in her paintings, seen from different angles. The viewer constructs their own narrative.
He is born in 1953 ( Antananarivo - Madagascar ). After studying in architecture and plastic arts he became a bookseller with a specialization on artists' books and avant-garde movements. This appeal brought him to collect the books of artists and this collection is deposited in Paris at the Centre d'art Immanence (Archive Station). Currently he is president of the Centre d'art Immanence in Paris and is politically engaged as deputy mayor in Fontenay-sous-Bois. He is also a great traveler. He is also a specialist of the famous french and american artist Robert Filliou, friend of childhood and resistance of his father Roger Tabanou, being custodian of an important correspondence allowing to bring new lighting on Robert Filliou.
