Issue d'une lignée réputée de céramistes d'art: la famille CHEMLA, Martine MAAREK, arrière-petite-fille de Jacob, petite-fille de Victor, nièce d'André qui l'a formée à cette pratique artistique, a souhaité perpétuer, par passion, la tradition familiale de style oriental des décors, tel que sa famille le pratiquait:
- motifs de style tunisien reprenant la production de la période dite "Qallaline", aux riches décors floraux, parfois animaliers, où dominent les bleus, les verts, le jaune d'or, mais dont le rouge est absent,
- décors de style Iznik, dont la palette de couleurs comporte essentiellement le bleu à base d'oxyde de cobalt, le turquoise, le vert émeraude et le rouge tomate, couleur la plus prisée, qui deviendra le symbole de cette production et qui fit la gloire de la céramique Iznik sous le règne de Soliman le Magnifique.
Martine MAAREK crée ses œuvres en reprenant des motifs traditionnels, dont certains sont des créations CHEMLA, et en les recomposant selon son imagination et son goût: décors exubérants, richement colorés, parfois naïfs, représentant des scènes florales, animalières, marines, ou décors géométriques, en prenant pour support de la faïence blanche ou colorée. L'éclat des couleurs, la finesse du dessin sont le résultat de la technique de céramique utilisée de "décor sous émail". Ses œuvres comportent des plats, des vases, des carreaux, des panneaux, tous décorés selon le style oriental, Tunisien ou Iznik.
Martine MAAREK est née française à Tunis en 1955, est cardiologue de profession, et a exposé à Paris (Salon des Peintres Médecins) et en Région parisienne (Levallois).
