Faille (2017) Sculpture by Marie Flambard

I chose to make this sculpture around contrasts by dealing with interior and exterior oppositions, top and bottom, meeting and separation, balance and imbalance, matter and void. I was inspired by a simple shape, that of a crack, a crevice, a fault, a tear, a scar. It is the sign of a border, of a separation or of a coming together and it is on this ambivalence that I want to work. This glass sculpture is thought of as a new dimension replacing the void, and assembling two parts that no longer seemed to be able to communicate, thus creating a balance between these two invisible parts. Balanced on a mirror, the fault seems to double to create a junction close to a stalagmitic pillar created by the fusion of two concretions forming drop by drop, sometimes over millennia. Fault is the symbol of concord, this sculpture highlights two gatherings, one is the meeting of two invisible parts on either side of the fault, and the other created by the point of equilibrium of the fault and its reflects a meeting of heaven and earth.
