     Natural de Portonovo (Pontevedra – España) Desde muy joven manifestó su interés por las artes plásticas y comenzó practicando escultura en los talleres de artistas próximos a su lugar de residencia. Pero pronto se decantó por la pintura y estudió dibujo, pintura y escultura en la Escuela de Artes y Oficios de Vigo, España.

En el año 1967 la Diputación de Pontevedra le concede una pensión, para estudios de pintura, con  la que se desplaza a  Madrid. Allí estudia en la Real Academia de San Fernando y en el Círculo de Bellas Artes. 

En la década de los 70 la pintura de Manuel Uhía se decanta hacia la abstracción que mostró en la III Bienal Internacional de 1978 y la V Bienal Nacional de 1979, ambas en Pontevedra. La constante evolución de estilo se aprecia en el uso de ocres y en contornos cada vez más evanescentes.

La obra de Manuel Uhía ha figurado en exposiciones de muchas ciudades de la Península y participado en muestras colectivas y bienales en Francia, Alemania, Bélgica, Bratislava, Argentina, y México.

Su trayectoria artística fue reconocida en el año 1983 con menciones especiales en los Salones de Otoño de Avignon y Evian (Francia). En 1977 obtuvo el Premio Rañolas  de ilustración.

En la década de los 70 la pintura de Manuel Uhía se decanta hacia la abstracción que mostró en la III Bienal Internacional de 1978 y la V Bienal Nacional de 1979, ambas en Pontevedra. La constante evolución de estilo se aprecia en el uso de ocres y en contornos cada vez más evanescentes.
