What inspired you to create art and become an artist? (events, feelings, experiences...)

My name is Maria Lipovskaya. I was born and raised in a dynasty of architects, and I could not imagine any other destiny than to follow in the footsteps of my family. I have always considered work to be the most important thing in life, and since childhood I dreamed about it, looking at magazines with the best projects. In my 5th year of university, I realized that I did not want to be an architect. For me, this really became a personal tragedy and the first break in the pattern in my life.

A long search began. I tried myself in all creative directions, except for painting, which did not arouse my interest, because at that time my mother began to paint, and the whole house was simply littered with paintings.

My path again led me to the family workshop, but as an interior designer, where Vadim and I headed the design department.

Everything was fine, but we could not help feeling that this was not our life. And at some point we left our newly renovated apartment, as well as our whole life in the capital, and moved to a village with a small child on a plot of 25 acres with an old apple orchard and a cracked foundation of 4 m2. The site was so overgrown with cow parsnip that only a couple of months later we found an overturned rusty car on it.

We had a dream - to build our own house. Since there were no savings, they decided to build from adobe - a material that can be found underfoot: clay, sand and straw. For about 4 years, we built a house together with our own hands, living in absolutely Spartan conditions, and there were periods when we had to borrow a penny for bread.

It was very difficult, we gave up more than once, but still managed to finish building the house. It turned out to be so interesting and original that a well-known Belarusian portal wrote an article about us: https://realt.onliner.by/2022/06/17/dom-iz-gliny

Almost everything inside the house is also made by our hands. We really liked to do handmade, and we were good at it. We made furniture, lamps, decor items, gifts and everything we could make from the trash that we found in the trash. So we gradually came to the pictures:

As soon as we managed to fulfill the dream of living in a country house, very difficult times for Belarusians came. We had to leave the country due to political reasons.

We have come a long and winding path, and it’s no longer scary to start everything from scratch, because we have something that will always be with us - our creativity, which means that wherever we are, we are at home, because a house is a place where hang our paintings.

What are your artistic backgrounds, techniques and themes that you have already experimented with?

Simultaneously with my husband, we began to paint pictures, but immediately realized that we needed to unite. Completely different in character, in creativity we complement each other perfectly. Each of us does what we like best and do better.

I make sketches of paintings. My world is a world of ideas and meanings. I fall into philosophical reasoning that haunts me, with questions about myself and others, about life, death and the structure of this world

When the sketch of the idea is ready, Vadim gets down to business. Thanks to his talent and extensive experience with volume, he skillfully embodies sketches, bringing something of his own.

What are the 3 things that make you different from other artists and make your work unique?
  1. Our paintings are interesting for their philosophy
  2. Our paintings are stylish and interior
  3. There are two of us - and this is always an unpredictable result in creativity in a good way

Where does your inspiration come from?

We draw inspiration from each other. In discussions of scientific theories and discoveries, books, events, everything that happens around. Sometimes even a piece of thought can be developed into a strong idea for a picture.

What is your artistic approach? What visions, sensations or feelings do you want to evoke in the viewer?

Our paintings are more like a cry into a faceless void or questions inside ourselves than an appeal to the viewer.

What is the process of creating your works? Spontaneously or with a long preparatory process (technical, inspiration from the classics of art, etc.)?

When it is decided how the work will be carried out, Vadim takes on the most difficult technical issues, deftly coping with all tasks. And I control the process. We always listen to each other in our common work.

Do you use a certain working technique? if yes, can you explain?

We work intuitively, using what we have at our disposal.

Are there any innovative aspects in your work? Can you tell us which ones?

Apparently, I am the first artist whose creative goal is CONTACT WITH THE NON-HUMAN MIND. I hope to someday get in touch with another form of conscious existence - AI, God, space, someone outside of the "Matrix" - as if I'm trying to explain to space what a person feels, in the hope of being heard and understood

Do you have the most convenient format or medium? if so, why?

At the moment, we have entered a new format - three-dimensional paintings. For us, as architects and designers, it is important that the picture is interesting enough and looks stylish in the interior.

Where do you produce your work? At home, in a shared workshop or in your own workshop? And in this space, how do you organize your creative work?

Before moving we had a workshop in a private house. We plan to acquire a workshop, because the format of our work requires a lot of space.

Does your job make you travel to meet new collectors, fairs or exhibitions? If yes, what does it bring to you?

We have not had such experience yet, but we are always ready to expand our horizons

How do you envision the evolution of your work and career as an artist in the future?

We are absolutely sure that we will have great success in our career as an artist! But if not, we still will not stop creating pictures, because creativity is not a part of our life, it is our whole life! This is what inspires and energizes us, gives us optimism, inspires hope, makes our life interesting and affects something very important somewhere deep inside.

What is the theme, style or technique of your latest artwork?

A three-dimensional conceptual picture of the philosophical content of "Tic-Tac-Toe" based on a children's game. Crumpled sheet with embossed crosses

Tell us about your most important exhibition experience?

A personal exhibition is the dream of any artist. You won't be bored at our exhibition!

If you could create a famous work in art history, what would it be? And why?

"Malevich's black square! Only this work managed to divide all art into before and after.

If you could invite one famous artist (dead or living) to dinner, who would it be? How would you suggest he spend the evening?

I would invite my mother to dinner, who could not yet move with us and stayed in another country. In Belarus, she is a fairly well-known artist, so I will allow myself to imagine this. I'd take her to the opera, lately she's been really into Kaufmann
