When Sam Dougados discovers 'beach art' in a video, he immediately decides to introduce it to France. We are in 2007 and He will be the first to make sand drawings in this way, which last as long as a low tide lasts. And as often in land-art, the artist then turns into a photographer to perpetuate this ephemeral work.
Equipped with a simple rake, and sometimes with a line, he will quickly master the technique to the point of achieving a real challenge in 2019: the portrait of the 7 presidents at the G7 in Biarritz. Sam Dougados' work is eminently linked to nature by its practice, but also by its themes: “I like to be inspired by the shape of the rocks, the beach, the puddles with which I am going to play, seeking mimicry. or contrast ”.
Sometimes also, it is inspired by the countries where it is found, “like in Portugal, where I reinterpreted azulejos, or in Morocco where I was inspired by zelliges, calligraphy, Arabic design”.
Each time, the idea is twofold: to find harmony in the drawing, to then allow contemplation in the photos. Hoping that this work allows the public to become aware of the environment, the time of a tide ... or more
