When my maternal grandfather passed away, I inherited his art materials. There were several boards that I had never seen before, called "scratchboards" or "scraperboards".
The technique they require is akin to engraving. The board is a piece of cardboard coated with a layer of ink. Instead of darkening the surface with charcoal, graphite, ink, etc., you use a sharp tool to remove lines of ink and reveal the white surface below.
It is a very slow process because it means stepping back again and again until the values (shades of grey) are correct.
I produced a series of portraits of Amerindiens and exhibited them under the title "Regards réservés". The pun was intentional.

Louisa Linton is a visual artist from Scotland. Just like Van Gogh, she was amazed and seduced by the light in the south of France and so, in 1984, she decided to settle in Montpellier where she has lived and worked ever since.

Ms Linton holds an B.A. Degree in French from the University of Edinburgh as well as diplomas in Fine Arts and Art Therapy from the University of Montpellier.

After years as an Art Therapist in a centre for children and adolescents with severe learning difficulties, Ms Linton now devotes her time to her own self-expression. She uses her creativity in lots of different ways, including writing, clothes design, gardening and music, but the forms of expression she has been using since she was a child are her favourites: drawing and painting.
